Susannah H. Christensen, 89, of Baker Hill Rd., Columbus Township, Corry, Pa., died peacefully on Sunday, November 8, 2009 at home.

She was born in Seattle, Wash. on February 20, 1920, a daughter of the late George and Helene Ferrer Harding.

Susannah was raised and educated in Portland, Oregon where she graduated from Ulysses S. Grant High School and then graduated from the University of Washington in Seattle with a degree in Sociology. She then joined the U.S. Navy in 1943 and served as a Link Trainer Instructor, teaching instrument flying to Navy pilots. She met Jordan while both were serving in the Navy in Seattle. Following her marriage, she moved to Columbus Township where she lived since.

Her main priority was raising and caring for her family and helping on the family's dairy farm. She later worked for the PA Department of Welfare as a case worker in the Warren office, retiring in 1979 after working there for 11 years.

Over the years she had been a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Corry and the Columbus Community Evangelical Church. She was also an active volunteer with the American Red Cross and Love Inc.

Susannah enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, sewing and reading. She also liked to cook and bake and was known for her apple and lemon meringue pies. Her home was always open for friends and acquaintances to stop and visit.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jordan Christensen, on May 7, 2005. The couple were married November 20, 1945 in Portland, Ore. She was also preceded in death by a son, Huy Do; soninlaw, Lynn Cole; and by two sisters, Virginia Lewis and Helene Rigger.

Susannah is survived by four daughters, Judy Cole and Kathy Christensen and her companion, Clifford "Buzz" Mason, all of Corry, Helene Christensen and her husband, Norris Daugharthy, of Russell, and Diane Christensen of Somerset, Ohio; by a son, John Foster of Warren; by her goddaughter, Mary Annette Matteson, of Corry; and her dearest friend, Flossie Jensen of Kansas. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Vena Sampsel, Kim Armenta, Quan Do, Mailinh Do, Cameron Jackson, Jenna Messina and Thane Bunce; by two greatgrandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Bracken Funeral Home, 315 N. Center St., Corry, Pa. on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m and on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the memorial service there at 11 a.m. with Pastor Les Utegg, of the Columbus Community Evangelical Church, officiating.

Burial will be private.
