Chamber launches Christmas Cache
By COLIN KYLER ckyler@timesobserver.comCounty residents have an opportunity to join a treasure hunt, giving them a chance to win prizes.
The Warren County Chamber of Business and Industry is holding a Christmas Cache in which a medallion will be hidden somewhere in Warren County on public property.
Director of Chamber Operations Melissa Anderson said it's a great chance for people to have fun and earn extra money for Christmas spending.
The medallion will be above ground, no higher than six feet and not in or near any body of water, Anderson said.
The medallion will have the logo of the WCCBI and Council On Tourism logos, Anderson, and will be kept inside of a plainly-marked plastic container to protect it from the weather.
There is a $2 registration fee for participants, Anderson said, and only a person who is registered will be eligible to win the grand prize.
Registration forms are available at wccbi.org and warrenadventures.com, Anderson said, and must be turned in to the WCCBI office by Nov. 13.
One clue will be made available each day between Nov. 16-20 and 23-27 by local media outlets, Anderson said, with seekers required to find the medallion by Dec. 2.
If not found by then, Anderson said registered participants will be entered in a drawing for the grand prize.
Organizers hope to make the hunt an annual event, Anderson said.
Anderson said new prizes appear daily, with the following prizes already announced:
$100 cash
1/2 off a year-long single membership at the Warren YMCA
A Warren County Humane Society $20 gift shop certificate
A 3-day, 45-mile canoe trip from Kinzua Dam to Tionesta for six people, including velle, paddles, life vests and shuttle service, an Allegheny River Paddling Guide and free trip-planning service, a $300 value, from Allegheny Outfitters
Coffee mugs from CNB Bank
A gift package from Warren General Hospital
A $25 gift certificate from "Off the Beaten Path"
A $20 gift certificate from Virg-Ann flower shop
A $100 gas card from Kwik Fill
Two chairs from Warren Manor
One pair of season tickets to the Jamestown Jammers
Participants seek at their own risk, Anderson said, and are asked to use reasonable safety precautions.
They should not intrude on private property, Anderson said, or damage trees, shrubbery, buildings or other public property during the search.
