MICHAEL KOLOS
Michael J. Kolos, 57, of 402 Monroe St., Warren, Pa. died Friday, November 6, 2009 peacefully with his family at his side after suffering a heart related injury.
Michael (Mike) was born in Clarkston, Michigan on September 29, 1952 to the late George V. Kolos and Alice M. Kolos Bates. He was a graduate of Columbia Station High School and Baldwin Wallace College in Cleveland, Ohio. He earned his Master's degree from Cleveland State.
Mike was employed by United Refining Company for the past 27 years, where he held the position of VicePresident of Asphalt Marketing. He was also an active member of the Asphalt Institute.
Michael touched many lives in our community with his strong ethic of hard work and giving his time to volunteering for several organizations. He was involved with the Warren Players Club for several years with his love of theatre and was most comfortable on stage acting in several plays. He volunteered as a Board member of the Over 30 Softball League, organizing many tournaments and league games. He was one of many key volunteers to organize the Four Paws Capital Campaign, which helped build the new Warren County Humane Society. He was a Board member and active volunteer for the Humane Society's many business needs.
He was an avid reader, he loved his Saturday afternoons at the movie theater, he loved playing the game of golf, and sharing his talents and time with others.
His love and devotion to his family, friends, coworkers, and love for his community made him a vital part in the lives of those who knew him. Michael Kolos was a kind, caring man of extraordinary character and will be sadly missed and forever treasured by all that his life touched.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Karen Fiem Kolos of Warren; his family pets which he cherished and enjoyed; his motherinlaw, Patricia Fiem; one daughter, Candace Ristagno and husband Greg of Rochester, N.Y.; one son, Chad Kolos and his wife Nicole of Lakewood, Ohio; stepmother Eileen Kolos; Siblings Teri Dresco of N. Ridgeville, Ohio, Janice Lovell of Auburn Hills, Mich., James Rowland of Rochester, Mich., Allison Walkowski and her husband Mark of St. Charles, Mich., Nicholas Kolos and wife Jessica of Clarkston, Mich., Kim Rathbun and husband Robert of Killeen, Texas, M. Parker Bates III and his wife Cindy of Grand Blanc, Mich.; three grandchildren, Quintin and Roman Ristagno, and Fallon Kolos. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, M. Parker Bates Jr. and one sister, Cynthia L. Hull.
Friends may call at the Donald E. Lewis Funeral Home, Inc., 304 East Street, Warren, Pa. on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph R.C. Church with Rev. Fr. Walter E. Packard, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph R.C. Cemetery.
