County jail
The inmates are packed in there like sardines, and with the understaffing of jail guards, it's hard to keep the population at the jail under control. What's wrong with sending the incoming inmates to the new prison recently built in Marienville? Even the state prisons are overcrowded and now that the inmates have to pay for medical problems, without help from inmates' families, how will the inmates get medical attention to sustain life?
I think the judges should take this matter under advisement and make new sentencing guidelines. I realize these inmates have broken the laws, but they are not animals, so give them strict probation or house arrest with monitors attached to them for the remainder of their sentences. Then the overcrowding would be reduced drastically.
A concerned ex-inmate of Warren jail.

jaycee-I'd have them keeping the ditches clean. I'm saying that was the response years ago when it was recommended. They could police up the dead animals on the highway that neither DOT or the game commission want to do. Cut brush obstructing views on turns and intersections. They'd enjoy getting out. Maybe.

Morrison...if that concept is "taking good jobs away from the DOT union workers...", what does the volunteer concept do? PennDOT doesn't pick up the trash along the highways...volunteers do it. Let these low-life types that seem to think they can commit a crime and get "3 squares a day and all the TV they want" do that work.

1) Don't do time 2) You getter better living in jail than some people do on the outside. 3) We pay for it. I can imagine it's not great in jail. Also, I do agree that some sentences are petty and a waste of taxpayer money and jail space for serious and repeat offenders, but at the same time, laws are laws.

Who really gives a crap! They did the crime, now shut up and do the time! Those idiots in jail get three meals a day when there are people in Warren who cant afford to eat three meals a day. When I go by and see them outside playing basketball, I just look at them and say "what a loser"! Could care less where they go.

Perhaps a sentence that causes an inmate to think about the crime that put him/her there is needed. The DA in Warren drops most charges to gain a "plea bargained conviction" which ends up in a snetence that involves "county time". Maybe some of these people that find it necessary to commit crimes should be convicted of them (plea bargained or trial) and maybe some "time down state" would make them think about committing a crime again. Should the county jail have a country club environment with TV, exercise room, etc? Maybe they need to get their exercise by walking the highways picking up garbage. Let them wear the bright orange jumpsuits with "WCJ" on the back. Unwarranted punishment?? Deserved by committing the crimes.

payne---we don't care about a British judge. And America has more criminals because we embrace the culture. The guns have always been here, and were easier to get. We didn't have the crime we have now. The attitude has changed.

Why doesn't Warren County send Morrison to jail and let those less guilty than him out. That would be all of them let out. Yes, Warren area, use some creativity.

Well as one senior British judge commented - Seventy Five percent of the prison inmates should be told to go home and never do that again. The other 25 percent should never be let out. As it stands now the mandatory sentencing guide lines have resulted in the US having the highest incarceration rates in the first world with little significant impact on crime. Given the current budget problems and the cost of these prisons something is going to have to give.

Strict probation? What is that? Your probie lives with you? Ankle bracelets can be removed. I will bet that if they get a taste of the sherff in Maricopa, the jail here would feel like a spa. I think they should all wear pink, too. Morrison, you are so funny. Good comeback. Talk about a tough room. LOL

Wow. Tough crowd. Don't believe anyone is being denied life saving medical treatment. Wanna give ods on houw many of these people were productive citizen workers with health insureance when they got busted? House arrest is not a bad idea. If they wore explosive ankle bracelets. Or one on their neck that detected alcohol. Go with the Maricopa county set up and it will be easier to "control" them.

Coming from an inmate; why not just let them be under house arrest. Oh yeah that would be great if your the one behind bars everyday. Stop committing crimes then you won't have to worry about it.

Do the crime, do the time. They are not mis treated, and should not expect rooms at the Holiday Inn. Do they realize that they get 3 meals a day, a bed and a room now and a lot of people don't have that? No, they are self centered and think only of their needs and how to get them, the heck with the law and other people's property. If they are your kids, then you should have brought them up better, now they are punished for what they did. I know people who work full time jobs at little pay and they cannot afford to eat 3 times a day and do not have medical coverage because it costs too much and yet, the criminals are whining? Get over it and straighten up. I don't like my taxes going to their welfare. And when the state did not pay its workers the prisoners were still taken care of and given meals, money and a bed. Quit belly aching.
