Quick action on team bus prevents problem

Teacher, volleyball coach able to stop vehicle

Quick thinking on the part of a Sheffield coach and teacher prevented what could have been a catastrophe on a trip home for a playoff game Tuesday evening.

The Sheffield High School volleyball team was traveling home via chartered coach bus when the driver began to lose control of the vehicle.

According to Warren County School District officials, teacher Diane Finley and volleyball coach Scott Olsen sprung into action.

"While coming into Bradford, Mrs. Finley and Coach Olsen had to take control of the moving bus to bring it to a stop," said Amy Stewart, director of instructional technology and communication for the district.

When asked why the driver lost control of the bus, she said, "We don't know what happened to the driver; he was not a district driver."

The bus was owned by Anderson Coach and contracted through Holiday tours.

After the near miss, Olsen and Finley didn't feel that continuing the trip was safe and immediately began contacting parents of players to arrange alternative transportation.

"We are thankful for the actions of the responsible employees on the bus that kept the students safe. They are to be commended," Stewart said.

Superintendent Dr. Robert Terrill stated, " Last night, two of our exceptional employees demonstrated quick thinking and decisive action that prevented what might have been a very serious accident."

Go Sheffield staff.....way to go. Did WTO think to call Anderson before printing this article? Probably not. Sheffield schools rock. The teachers and coaches rock. Thank you for coming to the rescue. I am glad no one got hurt.

Typical WTO article. Lacking information that would be very key to the article. Did the bus driver blank out? Go into seizures? Have too much to drink? Love these half done articles. Glad to see the staff on board was up for the challenge to keep everyone safe.
