SitCOMM: Fatherhood — 'It's the Climb'

"Bet you wish you were him."
I thought about it for a second. It's a lot easier to answer than it used to be.
A co-worker called me Monday afternoon and said his buddy was going to Game 5 of the World Series in Philadelphia.
There was a time when I would have dropped everything to go to Game 5 of the World Series, or, better yet, Game 6 or 7 at the new Yankee Stadium.
I've done it plenty of times; dropped everything to go do whatever I wanted.
What I wanted to do was go to Yankee Stadium - I went to Game 6 of the 2003 World Series.
Former Marlins pitcher Josh Beckett (bleep) made that drive home longer, but I spent the day immersing myself in Yankee Universe.
And then I grew up.
Don't get me wrong, I would still drop some serious scratch on the World Series, if I could.
But there's a few things I love more now.
(If you only knew how much I love the Yankees!)
So, I traded in my chance to see the Yankees in the 2009 World Series for ...
Miley Cyrus.
Yeah, the same teeny bopper that plays Hannah Montana.
My six-year-old daughter Jordan loves her; maybe not as much as I love the Yankees.
As I write this, the Yankees are probably taking batting practice to face Cliff Lee in Game 5 of the World Series
(Then, later in Game 5, the Yankees were getting lumped up and lost)
Please win it by Game 6.
I know Lee's tough to hit. But unless I get a "Swishalicious," an "El Capitan," an "A-Bomb from A-Rod," it's going to Game 7.
And Game 7 is on the same night I'm taking Jordan to the Miley Cyrus concert at Penn State University.
I know, I'll ask my wife Shannon to take her.
No, no, no. That's not even an option. I'm seriously kidding.
Jordan (and her little brother Chase) - that's my life now.
Not the Yankees.
Times are changing. I'm changing, and I almost can't believe it. It's not about me anymore.
If any of you think this adjustment is difficult - any of you fathers -you're not alone. You just aren't as stupid as I am to admit to it.
I've been waiting for this moment for a while; not the Yankees winning their 27th World Championship. Rather, spending some oh-so-valuable father-daughter time on her turf - a Miley Cyrus concert.
What can I say? "It's the Climb."
"Bet you wish you were him" at Game 5 of the World Series?
(One last pause for Derek Jeter)
Not a chance.

What a great story. Sure would be nice to see more of these kinds of write-up's in the WTO.
