Habitat dedicates home in Warren

With prayer, thanks and a song, a mother and her three children opened their front door to visitors Saturday, and they weren't looking for candy.
Gathered in the living room and dining area of their Walnut Street home were a dozen volunteers and well-wishers, who took part in a brief ceremony to dedicate Shana Wennberg's new home. It was a place all of them knew well; they had built the home from the ground up over the past several months.
Surrounded by her three children Wennberg's eyes welled up more than once as volunteers from Habitat for Humanity took part in the organization's fifth home dedication in Warren.
In addition to those who volunteered their time and brawn to the project, the group thanked Alton and Gladys Chase for their donation of the property on which the house was built.
Olivia Sechriest, volunteer coordinator and chairman of the family selection committee, noted that Habitat for Humanity has already provided more than 300,000 homes for deserving families across the country. "Our effort is just a drop in the bucket, but with your support and labor we will continue to build."
The goal of Habitat is to provide safe, decent, affordable housing to families who need it, are willing to put at least 400 hours of labor into the construction themselves and are able to make the reasonable payments on the home, which was constructed with no profit.
