Numerous bystanders stood by and watched, Youngsville police were called, and borough officials closed streets as monsters, witches, heroes, jesters, brides, and a sumo wrestler made a scene Friday afternoon.
The Youngsville Elementary School Halloween Parade is a long-standing tradition.
Almost 400 students in grades kindergarten through fifth put on costumes, masks and make-up and enjoyed a walk down Second Street to the Evangelical United Methodist Church and back to school.
"The kids really enjoy it," Principal Eric Mineweaser said. "It's a fun event."
Dozens of parents and residents lined the street as the children passed.
"This is something every year that the community expects," Mineweaser said.
He couldn't say exactly how long the event has been going on, but it's not new to the principal. "I did it when I was here," the former student said.
Kindergarten teacher Sue Kibbey led the walk, as usual, according to Mineweaser.
Once the walk was over, students returned to their classes for Halloween parties and candy.
Many stayed in costume.
One of the most common exclamations heard at the parade was, "There's Waldo!"
Third grader Samuel Hoover was Waldo and he was not hard to find in his red and white striped shirt and hat.
"There were a lot of neat costumes," Mineweaser said. "Creative."
