Festival on

the Mountain

The group bringing Love INC (Love In the Name of Christ) to the Brokenstraw Valley will be selling baked goods at the Wesley Woods Festival on the Mountain.

Held Saturday, Oct. 24 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., this Christian music festival will feature Christian bands, speakers, arts and crafts vendors, hay rides, horseback riding, and much more.

Look for the "Love INC group" among the food vendors, selling cookies, muffins, breads, brownies, and all sorts of goodies. The hope is to raise enough money for the Brokenstraw Valley chapter to become affiliated with the national organization. Through this program we will be able to reach out to those in need in a tangible way.

Also, stop to see the huge pumpkin at our booth, donated by the Dan Rutsky family. Guess the weight and take a chance on winning a theme basket, or even the pumpkin.

Facade money for

Property Improvements

The Warren County Regional Main Street program has been funding facades for over a year now. The way the program works is, after a project is accepted, a property owner will pay 50 percent of their facade project and the state will pay 50 percent.

This program is available to any property owner within the designated Main Street area of Sheffield, Sugar Grove, Tidioute and Youngsville, residential and commercial properties.

Recently a real estate agent called the Regional Main Street coordinator and asked if one of his clients could use the facade money for a facade upgrade to help sell a property, the answer is yes, if the property owner fills out the application and sends it to the contact within that community or the Regional Main Street coordinator, Kathleen Reitinger.

Facade funds can be used for doors that need replaced or repaired and if a property owner needs to have an ADA accessible entrance. The Sugar Grove Free Library asked for funding for that purpose last year. It also funds window replacement or repairs. It will even fund some cans of paint to just paint the trim. Fifty percent or up to $5,000 is available per facade project. Presently, the Warren Forest Counties Economic Opportunity Council (EOC) has $39,000 available for facade projects.

If a ramp is needed for accessibility, it too can qualify for funding through the facade grant. The ramp must be on the front of the building or allow access through the front door.

Youngsville facades that have been completed are the First United Methodist Church, and Holmberg Hair Salon and Ralston Computers. A facade currently in progress is Bower's Sport Shop. A facade in the application process is the Leofsky Apartments at the crossroads of West and East Main streets.

If you have any questions or to begin the application process, contact Reitinger at 814-406-0045 or email at reitinger@wfcaa.org

Youngsville Library

Book Club

Eighteen library patrons met Tuesday, Oct. 20 for Youngsville Library's monthly book club. The book "Sugar Queen" by Sarah Addison Allen was discussed.

"We really have a great book club group," stated Library Director Kristy Wallace. "We can count on 15 to 20 participants each month. What is great about our group is that we have a very laid-back style, not everyone can meet every month and that's OK, not to mention that we encourage a very open and friendly conversational format-it's great how we can agree to disagree about characters, plots, and genres, without any tension, it makes for lively and interesting conversations. We welcome anyone who is interested in joining us to call the library for details or to stop by and pick-up a listing of the books that the core group has chosen to read for next year. We meet the third Tuesday of each month from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. (except in December). Our next meeting date is Nov. 17 and we will be discussing the book 'The Time Traveler's Wife' by Audrey Niffenegger."
