Artist Trading Card Show at Allegheny Artistry in Youngsville

POSTED: October 22, 2009

The Local Artist's Co-Op/Allegheny Artistry at 106 East Main St., Youngsville, is the site for the areas first Artists Trading Card Show. Unlike the sports trading cards familiar to all of us, each Artists card is a hand-made, one-of-a-kind, mini work of art. The artist's cards are the same size, 2.5" x 3.5," as the traditional cards and are displayed in the same plastic sleeves. The similarity stops there. Artists paint, draw, glue, sprinkle, or dab any material that can conform to the relatively flat display sleeve. Themes are endless.

This show started in Johnsonburg this spring then moved to Ridgeway Visitors to the shows could make their own cards and add them to the collection to be passed on to the Warren County shows. The public is invited to a reception Friday, Oct. 23, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Co-Op in Youngsville. Prepare to be amazed at the creativity that can be packed into such a small package. Blank cards and a variety of materials will be available for those who wish to create their own cards to be added to the traveling show.

The show will remain at the Co-Op until the end of November. December 12th the show will be at Bollinger Enterprises 44 N. State Street, Warren. In January, it will be at Cafe 905 at the Warren Senior Community Center, 905 Fourth Ave., Warren. The ACEO Show will end with a party in Johnsonburg and an opportunity to buy and trade cards at that time. After that event, remaining cards will be returned to the owners.

The Trading Card movement got started by a Zurich artist in 1997. The idea was brought to Warren County by Fred Danielson of Youngsville when he presented a program about creating the trading cards at Warren Art League earlier this year. His trading card book will also be displayed at the show. The hope is that the Art Trading Cards will catch on locally and create more interest in collecting original art.
