GIRLS SOCCER: Warren girls tied atop region after win at Titusville
By JON SITLER and ALLEN SEYBERT editorial@timesobserver.comTITUSVILLE - Warren is tied atop the Region 2 standings after a 1-0 win Thursday over Titusville.
"It was a playoff-type game," said Warren coach Bob Domville, whose Dragons are 9-3 overall and 9-1 in the region. "The girls are coming on; we might be hitting our stride at the right time."
Titusville was unbeaten at 9-0 in the region entering Thursday's play and defeated Warren, 2-0, earlier this season.
In the loss, Domville said the Dragons possessed the ball the majority of the second half, but the first goal scored by Titusville changed the direction of the game.
This time - with five minutes left in the half on the wet grass field - Warren scored first. Megan Lawson's corner kick was touched by twin sister KT Lawson before going off a Titusville defender and into goal.
Domville said Warren had "a bunch" of corner kicks in the match, and had another good opportunity to score just before the half - Sarah Kingston's shot between two defenders was just wide of the post.
In the second half, it was more of the same - Warren outshot Titusville 18-5 for the match.
KT Lawson had a hot that was saved by the outstretched arm of the Titusville goalie. The only period of the match the lead was in dount was a 10-minute stretch of the second half in which Titusville was "pushing to get the equalizer," said Domville.
"This time we put pretty much a whole game together," he said.
In a 2-0 junior varsity win, Jaimie Eaton and Mariel English scored goals.

Conneaut Valley 2, Eisenhower 1
CONNEAUTVILLE - Dressing just 13 players at the start, Eisenhower lost two more to injury during Thursday's game and ended with no subs to speak of in a 2-1 loss to Conneaut Valley.
"I don't know that that team is better than us even though they beat us twice this year," said Eisenhower coach Kevin Weigel. "We just struggled a little bit with attrition tonight and had several players that had to play the entire 80 minutes."
Things started well enough for the Knights (4-8) who took a 1-0 lead just six minutes into the contest. Kayla Gurdak collected the ball at midfield and "made a couple of nifty moves" before burying a shot into the upper right hand corner of the net from 18 yards out.
The Lady Indians needed 13 minutes to tie the game at 1-1, scoring on a cross in front of the net in which the goalkeeper had no chance to make a save and the game remained knotted up into the second half. Early in the second half, Conneaut Valley was able to head home a goal off of a corner kick and that proved to be the winning score.
"The girls played well and had some nice rushes," said Weigel. "Our goalkeeper (Natalie Gray) and defense also played quite strong as they usually do."
