Robert J. "Bob" Baynes, 96, a resident of the Rouse home and formerly of Sheffield, Pa., passed away Saturday, October 10, 2009.
Bob was born on December 12, 1912, in Sheffield, a son of the late John and Myra Lepsch Baynes. Bob graduated from Sheffield High School in 1930. After graduation he moved to Rochester, N.Y., where he was employed by the Gleason Corporation. He returned to Sheffield in the late 1940s, where he owned and operated Baynes' Hardware (now Peterson's Hardware) for several years until retirement.
Bob served in the US Navy and, when in Sheffield, was a member of the Rotary Club, the International Order of Odd Fellows, and the Sheffield United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 75 years, Luella; two sisters, Helen Smith and Dorothy Lepsch; and a niece, Myra Festa.
Bob is survived by his son, Robert A. "Skip" Baynes of Grand Blanc, Mich.; grandchildren Mark Baynes, Linden, Mich. and Linda Baynes, Cadillac, Mich.; greatgrandchildren Kelsey and Katie Baynes, Linden Mich.; nieces Martha SmithPugh, Sheffield, Donna Anderson, Jamestown, N.Y., and Sandra Scott, Edmond, Okla.; and a nephew, John Lepsch, Dallas, Texas.
It was Bob's wish to be cremated with no visitation or funeral service. A private memorial service will be held in Michigan at the convenience of the family. BordenLloyd Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Sheffield United Methodist Church, Box 771, Sheffield, PA 16347.
