Thomas Michael McGinty, 51, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Edinboro, Pa. on Sunday October 4, 2009.

He was born on February 14, 1958 in Oil City, Pa., a son of the late Robert and Joan McGinty. Tom attended St. Stephens Elementary School and graduated from Venango Christian High School in 1976. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1982 with a B.S. in Psychology.

Tom was employed at SCI Cambridge Springs as a Drug and Alcohol Treatment Supervisor. He was formerly employed at the Venango County Counseling Center, and the Warren/Forest County Department of Human Services, where he met his loving wife, Melanie McGinty, whom he married on February 28, 2003.

Tom was an avid golfer, Steelers fan and creator/author of the comic strip "Polliwog Pond." He was known for his happy demeanor and respect for all. Most of all, Tom's world revolved around his wife, brothers, sisters, step sons, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and his dog Connor.

Tom is survived by his wife, the former Melanie Chiodo Young; two step sons and their wives, Jeffrey Young and Nikole of Villa Rica, Ga. and Evan Young and Melissa of Derwood, Md. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Andrew, Sonya, Chiara, and Lillia; six brothers and sisters, Mary Jo McGinty, Robin Hutchinson, Robert L. McGinty Jr. and Judy, Matthew McGinty, and Jodie McGinty of Oil City, and Bridget Brown of Norwich, Conn.; a brother and sisterinlaw, Donald and Susan Chiodo of Erie, Pa. and Karen Rieth and John of Avon Lakes, Ohio. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, Jennifer Pardee, Jill HutchinsonReed, and Patrick McGinty of Oil City; Michael Brown of Chesapeake, Va.; Nicholas Brown and Jessie Craig of Edinboro; Christopher, Dan, and Ashley of Norwich Conn.; as well as many great nieces and nephews.

Tom, thank you for spending your life with us. You will be greatly missed by all and our memory of you will guide us through our lives so that we can try to be as happy and caring as you were to us. We love you Tom and we will never forget you.

Friends may call at the Glunt Funeral Home, 210 Erie Street, Edinboro, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of the Lake Church at 11 a.m. on Friday. A second viewing will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday at the Reinsel Funeral Home, 116 Bissell Ave., Oil City, Pa. 16301.
