Create custom cards
There are still spaces available for Johanna Fehlman's Christmas Card Workshop on Tuesday, Oct. 27 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Get started on your Christmas cards early! You will be making 12 different cards from two types of background paper. Stamped images will already be done for you, so you'll just need to assemble them! Call the library (563-7670) by Oct. 16 to sign-up. Cost is $12 to cover materials.
Festival of Bands
The ninth Annual Brokenstraw Valley Festival of Bands, hosted by the Youngsville Eagle Instrumental Boosters, will be held Saturday, Oct. 10 at War Memorial Field in Warren and features 17 competing high school marching bands.
Gates open at 2 p.m., with the opening ceremony at 3 p.m. and awards ceremony at 8 p.m. Admission prices are: adults $6, students $4, and senior citizens $4.
Throughout the performances the food concession stand will be open. Plus, personalized 'love notes' and Candy grams can be sent by parents and close friends to marching band members. There will be a variety of gift baskets to be raffled off, 50/50 tickets will be sold and a bake sale table will be open. Vote for your favorite band by putting a cash donation into that band's jar.
Karen Wilcox, band mother, said that the event is held annually to provide a marching band competition venue for area schools and is a primary fundraiser for the 2009 band season for the Youngsville Eagle Marching band.
Saturday's performance will include Youngsville's Marching Eagles performing "The Heist" where the audience can watch as the Marching Eagles commit the world's largest diamond heist, only to have the law prevail.
Chicken Barbecue
St. Luke Church, 420 N. Main St., is having a chicken barbecue on Sunday, Oct. 11 from noon to 4 p.m, unless it is sold out earlier. The menu is a half chicken, potatoes, cabbage salad, roll and dessert for a donation of $8 a dinner. Take-outs are available.
ROY Meeting
The monthly general meeting of the Revitalization Of Youngsville Organization will be held at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13 at Youngsville Public Library. General meetings are a time when all the ROY committees report on the activities they are working on. Separate committee meetings are held at other times. Low Impact
Aerobics Class
The Youngsville Free Methodist Church is offering a low impact aerobics exercise class for senior citizens and adults beginning Monday, Oct. 19 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Pittsfield Community Center on Route 27. It will be a nine-week session with classes held every Monday and Wednesday Exercisers are asked to bring a mat or something to lay on the floor, light two- to three-pound weights, a friend and a good attitude. Support Missions
The Youngsville Free Methodist Church is holding an all you can eat buffet at the Warren Pizza Hut on Thursday, Oct. 8 from 4 to 8 p.m. The meal includes pizza, pasta, salad and breadsticks. All tips and 15 percent of sales will go towards supporting the church's Missions Fund. Church members will take orders and serve beverages.
Haunted Wilder
Museum
The Historical Society is holding a haunted museum on Oct. 16 and 17 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Wilder Museum in Irvine. Donations for the tours are $5 per person. All proceeds go to help support the museum for everyone to enjoy now and into the future. For information, call 723-1795.
Good Try
The Community Foundation of Warren County awarded its $10,000 grant during its 60th anniversary reception on Tuesday to Pennsylvania Kinzua Pathways. The winning entry, chosen from 10 local nonprofits working to improve the quality of life in the county, received 26 percent of the total popular votes registered on the Community Foundation's website. Youngsville gave it a good try, coming in second with 21 percent of the votes.
