Dorothy E. Anderson, 87, a longtime resident of Tidioute, died Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 1, 2009 at the home of her daughter, surrounded by her family.

She was born Oct. 6, 1921 in Watson Township, Warren County, a daughter of the late Rue and Nellie Hickman Mickelson and was a lifelong resident of Tidioute. She attended the former Plank Road School and graduated from Warren High, class of 1941.

Dorothy was employed by GE of North East, Levinson Brothers Department Store and owned her own Fabric Store in Tidioute.

She was an active member of the Tidioute Presbyterian Church, serving as a Deacon and Elder. Over the years, she enjoyed a multitude of blessings, first being spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dorothy's zest for life led her down many paths, whether it be fishing, playing pool with her son, walking on a beach collecting shells, sewing, gardening or spending time outdoors. Her positive outlook on life was an inspiration to all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death June 6, 1995, by her husband, Robert E. Anderson, whom she married February 24, 1945; and four sisters and three brothers.

She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Derek "Phyllis" Rapp, of Titusville; three sons, Kenneth Anderson and his wife Margie, Tidioute; Max Anderson, Youngsville; Larry Anderson and his wife Gerri, Grand Valley, Pa. She is also survived by three granddaughters; four grandsons; and two great grandsons.

Friends will be received at the James M. Higgins Funeral Home, 3 Elm Street, Tidioute, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4, 2009 and are invited to attend services in the Tidioute Presbyterian Church at 10 a.m. on Monday, October 5, with Dennis Ledebur, pastor, officiating.

Interment services will follow in the Triumph Swedish Union Church with burial in Swedish Union Cemetery, Triumph Twp., Tidioute.

The family suggests that memorials be made to the Tidioute Community Charter School, the Tidioute Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, or Hospice of Crawford County, 310 North Monroe St., Titusville, PA 16354.
