John Frederick Brendlinger, 71, of 84 Cherry Grove Rd., Weldbank, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2009 at Warren General Hospital, following a brief illness.

Mr. Brendlinger was born June 9, 1938, in Elders Ridge, Pa., the son of the late Philip and Elizabeth Haney Brendlinger. Mr. Brendlinger was a 1957 graduate of Indiana High School and had been employed in the maintenance department at the United Refining Company for 31 years, retiring in January 1999.

He served in the US Marine Corps, was a member of the Church of the Brethern, enjoyed fishing, hunting, puzzles, cards and spending time with family and especially his grandchildren. He was a member of Clarendon VFW and the Sheffield Senior Center, and a former member of the Warren Moose Lodge and the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy M. Fedinick Brendlinger, whom he married on March 8, 1958 in Riviera Beach, Md.; two daughters, Carla Jo Tkach and her companion Brian Moore, Sheffield; and Lisa Marie Steele and her husband Gordy, Slate Lick, Pa.; two sons, Steven Clyde Brendlinger and his wife Charlene, Lander, and Shawn Andrew Brendlinger and his wife Amy, Edinboro; eight grandchildren, Jake and Josh Tkach, Zack and Sam Steele, Ryan Brendlinger, and Megan, Emma, Andrew and Alex Brendlinger; two brothers, David Brendlinger and his wife Margaret, Indiana, Pa., and Richard Brendlinger and his wife Diana, Clymer, Pa.; four sisters, Margaret Erichson, Lee's Sumitt, Pa., Edna Cramer, Clymer, Pa., Laura Berg, Chicago, Ill., and Phyllis Greene and her husband John, Grafton, Va.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Anna Bowser; two brothers, Allen Brendlinger, and Clyde Brendlinger, who died in World War II; and an infant sister, Niomi Brendlinger.

Friends may call at the Peterson Blick Funeral Home, Inc., 1003 Penn Ave. E., Warren, between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 3, 2009. A funeral service will be held there at the funeral home at 1 p.m., with Rev. Wade Barto, pastor, Lander United Methodist Church, officiating.

Burial will be in the Sheffield Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, family has requested memorials be made to The Cancer Care Center, 2 Crescent Park West, Warren, PA 16365, or the Sheffield Senior Center.
