Extension dinner
Sara Fitzsimmons will speak on the American chestnut at the 90th annual dinner meeting of Penn State Extension in Forest County. Fitzsimmons is the Northern Appalachian Regional Science Coordinator for the American Chestnut Foundation based out of Penn State University. She will talk about the history of the American chestnut tree and the blight that devastated the tree in the early 1900s. She will also explain the efforts that are underway to develop a blight resistant American chestnut tree.
The dinner meeting will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, at St. Anthony's Church in Tionesta. A turkey dinner will be served by the Ladies Guild of St. Anthony's Church, and dinner music will be provided by the local residents of Chapter 16 of the Tri State Country Music Association. Following dinner there will be 4-H recognitions of the Forest County 4-H Leaders and the 4-H Development Fund board members. An "Exceptional Service" award also will be presented. The Blessing of the Animals will take place at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4, at St. Francis of Asissi Episcopal Church in Youngsville, rain or shine. Everyone is welcome.
