Emory John Mahan, 82, of Follett Run Road, War-ren, Pa., passed away on Sa-turday, September 26, 2009 at his residence.
Emory was born May 8, 1927, in Sugar Grove, Pa., the son of the late Robert and Gertrude Parker Mahan. He was born and raised in Sugar Grove and was a graduate of Sugar Grove High School.
He served in the U.S. Army in General Patton's Army in Germany and was a platoon sergeant with the Constabulary Force in Ger-many immediately follow-ing WWII. He then further served his country by en-listing with the National Guard until 1959, achiev-ing the rank of Lieutenant.
He was owner of Mahan Motors for over 50 years. He was also very active with the Republican Party. He attended the Sugar Grove Mission Covenant Church and the Youngs-ville Free Methodist Church.
Emory was a member of the Stillwater Lodge # 547 of Free and Accepted Ma-sons, the Zem Zem Shrine, the Coudersport Consisto-ry, and the Jesters. He was a dedicated member of the Masonic bodies and was in-strumental in building the Stillwater Lodge in Youngsville. He was an ac-complished instrument rat-ed private pilot and owned his own airport. He also en-joyed racing for over 40 years, starting with the Eight Balls at the track in Starbrick in a 1936 Buick.
He is survived by his wife, Nora J. Irwin Mahan; six children, John Mahan and his wife Amber, Columbus, Ohio, William Mahan and his wife Pam, Anne Albright and her hus-band Zane, and Connie Mahan, all of Warren, John Uplinger, and his wife Car-men, Irvine, PA, Penni Uplinger, Warren; one brother, Paul Mahan and his wife Betty, Warren; five grandchildren, Chelsea and Caleb Albright, and Jonathan, Hunter and Madison Uplinger; several nieces and nephews; and his dog, Maggie.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Gor-don Mahan.
Friends may call at the Peterson - Blick Funeral Home, Inc., 1003 Penn Ave. E., Warren, on Tuesday, September 29, from, 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and for one hour prior to a funeral ser-vice to be held at the Grace United Methodist Church, Penna. Ave. and Prospect St., Warren, on Wednesday, September 30, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Kevin Haley, pastor, Grace United Methodist Church, Rev. Rick Hamrick, pastor Youngsville Free Metho-dist Church, and Rev. Brian Haight, pastor, Sugar Grove Mission Covenant Church, co- officiating. A Masonic service will be held at the funeral home for the family at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, and members of the Shef-field and Clarendon VFW will provide military honors graveside.
Burial will be in the family lot in Foster Cemetery, Lander, Pa.
