Gifted advisory

A Gifted Advisory Group meeting will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, at the Learning Enrichment Center in North Warren. Interested Gifted Support parents and students are encouraged to attend.

Evening service

Cable Hollow Church will hold another Saturday evening service on Sept. 26. The service is informal, and includes a lot of music, a testimony and a brief message from Pastor Jon. Gathering music will begin at 6:45 p.m., followed by the service at 7 p.m. The public is invited.

Library open

The Elk Township Historical Society Lending Library will have open hours from 2 to 6 p.m. Wednesday Sept. 24. A free homemade soup supper will be available along with tea, coffee and a sweet treat. The activity will be making bees wax candles. Reserve your spot to participate in this handcraft (elktwphistorical@verizon.net , 757-4443 or 757-8186).

YHS reunion

Youngsville High School Class of 1969 will have its 40-year class reunion Oct. 2-3 starting with the Friday night homecoming football game at 7 p.m. and gathering at the alumni tent. Saturday at 9 a.m. classmates will attend the YHS alumni breakfast at Richard's Restaurant, and at noon they will gather at 13 Coleman Ave., Youngsville, for socializing and a tour of Youngsville High School. Dinner will be at Warren Holiday Inn from 5 to 9 p.m. Call in dinner reservations at 726-3001. The group will end the evening by attending the YHS Alumni dance at the Youngsville Firehall.

Orchestra begins

Warren Civic Orchestra will begin its 57th season with rehearsals on Sept. 24 at Warren Area High School. The orchestra meets every Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. in the bandroom. String players accustomed to playing in third position and up are always needed. There are also openings in the French horn, trombone and percussion sections. Anyone interested in joining, call 723-9110 for information.

The first concert, scheduled for 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, at the Struthers Library Theatre, is titled "Home Sweet Home." This program will consist of music written by Pennsylvania composers as well as the famous "Lincoln's Portrait" with narrator and soloist.

Robert Hausmann, cellist with the Buffalo Symphony, will join the orchestra for the second program, "Isn't It Romantic." This concert, set for 4 p.m. Sunday, March 14, 2010, is also at the Library Theatre.

The final program at the theater will be on Saturday, May 1, 2010, at 7 p.m. This is the second evening program the orchestra has presented to the public over the years. All concerts are free and open to the public.

See the Pirates

The Pittsburgh Pirates game against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday, Sept. 27, is the last Sunday game of the season for the Pirates and is Fan Appreciation Day. The Warren Senior Center, 800 Pennsylvania Ave. W., has a few seats remaining on the bus which leaves the center at 8:30 a.m. The group will stop at Bob Evans at the Mars exit for an early lunch stop (on own), then a dinner stop in Barkeyville at King's (on own). Banjo Jammers

Lake Erie Banjo Jammers will provide entertainment for the Warren Community Center, 905 Forth Ave., evening meal on Tuesday, Sept. 29, at 6 p.m. A stuffed chicken breast dinner will be served. Cost is $6. Tickets can be purchased at the center from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This is the fall flu clinic; no swine-flu vaccination will be given at this time. Medicare Part B accepted. All others are $30 cash or check.

Seniors travel

The fofllowing trips and excursions are planned at Warren Senior Center, 800 Pennsylvania Ave. W., in the coming months: Lipizzaner Stallions Sept. 26. Leave Center for Erie 9:15 a.m. with a stop for lunch at your own cost. Attend 2 p.m. show, returning home following the performance. Children welcome.

Pittsburgh baseball trip Sept. 27 - Fan Appreciation Day. Leave Center at 8:30 a.m. with a stop for breakfast at King's in Barkeyville (at your cost). Following game, a stop at Bob Evans for dinner (on your own) before returning home. Grandchildren and friends welcome.

Erie Shopping on TAWC bus Sept. 30. Leave Center at 8 a.m. and home by 5:30 p.m. Free of charge if 65 or older.

Applefest Friday, Oct. 2. Leave at 9 a.m. and home by 5 p.m.

Sprague Maple Farms Thursday, Oct. 15. Leave at 10 a.m. & includes lunch at your cost. Stop at Cuba Cheese Store on the way home. Please pay upon sign-up.

Hill & Dale to meet

The Hill and Dale Garden Club will meet at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, at VanDorn's in Sugar Grove. "Table Decorations" will be presented by Mary Lou VanDorn and Becky Brown. Hostesses will be VanDorn, Brown, Irene Berg, Lila Myer and Sue Russell. Devotions will be led by Becky Brown.
