Class '54 reunion
Warren High School Class of 1954 will host a pre-reunion get-together on Friday, Sept.18, at the Warren Holiday Inn Atruim at 7 p.m. The banquet will be on Sat, Sept.19, at the Holiday Inn Ballroom starting at 5:30 p.m. Reservations may still be made by calling 723-2750.
PARSE picnic
The annual picnic of PARSE (Pennsylvania Association of Retired State Employees) was held at Betts Pavilion on Sept. 10 with approximately 55 members and guests present from several states and counties. Door prizes were awarded; memories were shared by former coworkers; and a meal was presented by the picnic committee. A report will be given at the next regular meeting on the annual meeting in Harrisburg of the state PARSE.
Off to Erie
Presque Isle Downs and Casino will be the destination of Warren Senior Center, 800 Pennsylvania Ave. W., leaving the center at 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18. Arriving at the casino at about 4:30 p.m., there will be time to use the bonus given by the casino before the buffet dinner is served upstairs overlooking the race track. The cost of the buffet plus the bus is included in the price; the bonus almost covers the price. Everyone is welcome to sign up, call the center at 723-3237 for information or reservations.
King recovering

Learn babysitting
Do you know of a great young person between the ages of 11-15 who wants to learn how to baby-sit? The American Red Cross will offer a one-day babysitter course on Saturday, Oct. 3, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Warren YMCA. Topics such as first aid, CPR and choking will be covered. Participants are asked to bring a bag lunch. Slots are limited so call the American Red Cross today at 723-6000.
AOC on the move
On Thursday, Sept. 17, the Allegheny Outdoor Club (AOC) will ride bikes in the Frewsburg area. Participants will meet at the Quality Market in Frewsburg at 5:30 p.m. For more information call event leader Pat Spicer at 757-8331.
On Saturday, Sept. 19, the AOC will be hiking the West Overland Trail in Chautauqua County, N.Y. The group will spend one overnight at a campsite with lean-tos one mile from the parking area. Participants will need to provide their own camping gear, raingear, water, lunch and a dish to share for dinner on Saturday and breakfast on Sunday. Participants will meet at the intersection of Rt. 474 and Rt. 33 in Panama, N.Y. at 9:30 a.m. For more information call event leader Sharon Johnson at 757-8491 or Pat Spicer at 757-8331.
On Sunday, Sept. 20, The AOC will hike in the Marienville area at Loleta on the Allegheny National Forest. This historical, 3.5-mile hike will include a visit to the Civilian Conservation Corps buildings, dam, and other projects. Participants should meet at Howe's True Value on Rt. 6 in Warren at 1 p.m. For more information call event leader Bill Massa at 723-2568.
Taste of Chocolate
United Methodist Women of Trinity U.M. Church, Clarendon, will host a "Taste of Chocolate" from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, at the Ruth M. Smith Center Gymnasium in Sheffield.
Corn maze set
The 2009 Youngsville Haunted Corn Maze will be open on Saturday, Sept. 19, at the end of Davis Street. The maze is open to children younger than 12 from 6 to 7 p.m. and for adults and older children from 7 to 9 p.m. Proceeds will benefit Revitalization of Youngsville (ROY). Youngsville area Girl Scout troops will host a food booth for maze visitors.
Band competition
Saturday
An "Echoes of Autumn" band competition will be hosted by Eisenhower High School Marching Knights on Saturday, Sept. 19, at War Memorial Field in Warren. Gates will open at 5 p.m., and opening ceremonies will begin at 5:45 p.m. Eight local bands will compete, and the Mansfield University Marching Band will be a special guest.
Polka Sunday
The Slovenian Polka Boosters will attend the John Berne Dance at Maples Inn in Crosby from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20. For information, call Paul Leofsky at 563-7516.
