Jammers put together late surge for win

September 2, 2009
The Times Observer

FISHKILL, N.Y. - Jamestown scored a run in each of the eighth and ninth innings, erasing a late deficit and claiming its 30th win of the New York-Penn Baseball League season with a 4-3 win over the Pinckney Division cellar dwelling Auburn Doubledays.

Auburn looked good at the start, building a 2-0 lead after two innings thanks to a two-run home run by Bradley Glenn, his sixth blast of the season. However, Jamestown answered back with two runs of its own in the top of the third.

Austin Markel walked and moved to third on Chris Wade's double. Markel would later score on the first of three Auburn errors on the night and Kyle Jensen grounded into a double play that allowed Wade to score.

After an RBI single from Auburn's Sean Ochinko made it 3-2 Doubledays, the bats for both teams fell silent and the game remained 3-2 after seven innings.

The Jammers tied it in the eighth after Jensen led off the inning with a solo homer to left. Skyler Crawford shut down the Doubledays offense in the bottom of the inning and in its final at-bat of the night, Jamestown came through with the winning run. Erik Kanaby reached on an error and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Markel followed with a base hit, bringing home the winning run.

Jammers closer Ajejandro Ramos struck out the side in order for the second straight night to give Jamestown a victory.

After completing the two-game sweep, the Jammers visit Pinckney Division champion Mahoning Valley for a series beginning on Wednesday.
