Jammers fall flat at Vermont

August 20, 2009
The Times Observer

BURLINGTON, Vt. - What a difference a day makes.

One day after setting season highs for runs (13) and hits (21), the Jamestown Jammers mustered just two hits in a 5-0 defeat to the Vermont Lake Monsters Thursday in New York-Penn League Baseball play.

A fourth inning single by Kyle Jensen and a seventh inning double from Carlos Paulino were all Jamestown (23-36) could manage off of Vermont starter Kyle Morrison and reliever Evan Bronson.

While Jamestown struggled to find its bats early in the contest, Vermont had little trouble coming out of the gate.

The Lake Monsters, third in the NYPL's Stedler Division, jumped on Jamestown starter Curtis Petersen (2-4) early with a pair of first inning runs. J.P. Ramirez doubled home the first tally and later scored on an RBI hit from Destin Hood.

Hood would later add a solo homer in the third inning and a two-run Vermont fifth - capped by a Sean Nicol home run - would close out the scoring. The final two runs came off of Jammers reliever Guery Ramirez.

The Jammers will go after the series victory on Friday when they visit Vermont in the rubber match of the three-game set.
