Cherry Grove area home destroyed by fire
A Cherry Grove area family was left homeless, but everyone escaped unharmed when fire destroyed their house at 682 Gregerson Road Saturday evening.
According to Cherry Grove Volunteer Fire Department First Assistant Chief Todd Ace, his department was called out at 6:28 p.m. Cherry Grove quickly alerted other volunteer fire departments in the area, and seven others responded to the scene. In addition to Cherry Grove's full turnout, Clarendon and Sheffield VFDs provided full turnouts, with help from Glade Township VFD, Youngsville VFD, Pleasant Township VFD and Starbrick VFD. Ludlow VFD provided a tanker at the scene. Red Cross was also on the scene.
Other departments provided standby services at Cherry Grove's, Clarendon's and Sheffield's stations.
Ace said there are only dry hydrants in the area of the fire, and fire fighters relied on a tanker task force to provide water.
The one-story ranch and an attached three-car garage was a total loss.
The names of the residents of the house were unavailable Sunday night.
"Everyone did well for what we had," Ace said.
Fire fighters were on the scene until after 10 p.m.
A state fire marshal is due at the scene on Monday to make a determination of the cause of the blaze, which started in the garages and spread to the house.
