JAMESTOWN, N.Y. - Drive home safely.
Robert Taylor's two-run blast in the bottom of the ninth erased a one-run deficit and gave the Jamestown Jammers a series victory over the Vermont Lake Monsters with a 6-5 win in the rubber match of a three-game set at Diethrick Park.
Taylor's blast was a game winner, but it should've only tied the game. Jamestown's leadoff man in the inning, Chase Austin, was only on base because of a Lake Monsters throwing error.
Still, Taylor made the most of his opportunity and pushed the Jammers to 11-16 on the season.
The Jammers fell behind 2-0 in the top of the first inning when starting pitcher Curtis Petersen allowed an RBI groundout from Vermont's Justin Bloxom and and a sacrifice fly from J.R. Higley.
The Jammers stormed back to grab a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth after an RBI single from Dustin Dickerson, an RBI double from Rand Smith, a sac fly from Jose Ceballos and an RBI groundout from Erik Kanaby.
The lead was short lived as Vermont scored twice in the fifth to tie it and took a 5-4 lead in the seventh after a wild pitch by Jammers relief pitcher Wilson Matos.
Jamestown trailed until Taylor's dramatics in the ninth, but it gives the Jammers a two-game streak heading into a weekend series with Hudson Valley.
The opener of that series is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Friday at Diethrick Park, Jamestown.
