Daniel J. Highhouse, ,son of James L. Highhouse and Audrey E. Davis , Sheffield, earned a doctorate of pharmacy degree from the University of Pittsburgh in May. He has accepted a position with CVS Pharmacy Huntington,W.Va.

Several local students have been named to the spring 2009 dean's list at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Students achieve dean's list status when they earn a grade point average of 3.25 or higher. Dean's list students, their hometowns, majors and degrees they are seeking are:

On May 31, Dr. James P. Jones graduated from The Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine with a doctor of medicine degree. In addition, Dr. Jones was promoted to the rank of Captain, in the United States Army Medical Corps.

While in medical school, Dr. Jones served on active-duty at Evans Army Community Hospital on Fort Carson Colorado, Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii and Madigan Army Medical Center on Fort Lewis Washington. He is a member of the Association of Military Osteopathic Physicians & Surgeons, the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American College of Physicians, and was involved in Stand Down, which provided free healthcare screenings for homeless veterans in the Philadelphia, PA area.

Dr. Jones returned to active military duty on June 7 and began residency training in family medicine at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. Dr. Jones is a 2005 graduate of the Pennsylvania State University, a 1985 graduate of Youngsville High School, the husband of Yoeneke June Jones, and the son of Jennie and Clarence Jones both of Youngsville.

Erin Skelly recently graduated magna cum laude from Mercyhurst College with a bachelor of arts in mathematics with a concentration in secondary education. She was inducted into the Mercyhurst College Service Honor Society this past spring. Some of her activities throughout college were serving on the steering committee of Kappa Delta Pi, vice president of the Mercyhurst Mathlete Club, member of the Mercyhurst College Honors Program, math tutor, and she also spent one season on the rowing team. She enjoyed coaching fourth and sixth grade girls' basketball at two elementary schools in Erie and was able to travel abroad to England and Ireland in the spring of 2007.

Skelly graduated from Sheffield High School in 2005 and is currently living with her parents in Pittsburgh.

Jillian Marie Manelick, daughter of Jeff and Jo Manelick, Youngsville, has been accepted to attend Great Lakes Institute of Technology, Erie, in the sonogram technology program. She graduated from Youngsville High School on June 5, 2009. While attending YHS, Manelick participated in track, cross country, Ophelia, art club, the YHS Trap team, as a class officer and was on the homecoming court.

Tyler David Zawacki of 12 Driftwood Dr., Warren, graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology on May 23 with both a bachelor of science and a master of engineering in mechanical engineering degree. He graduated with highest honors (grade average 3.8 - 4.0) from the Kate Gleason College of Engineering and he completed the RIT Honors Program. He is the son of Mark and Barb Zawacki of Warren and a 2004 graduate of Warren Area High School. Zawacki has accepted a temporary position in Fort Worth, Texas working for Lockheed Martin Aeronautics and plans to attend the von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics in Brussels, Belgium starting in Fall of 2009.

Ryan J. Lucia graduated magna cum laude from Lemon Bay High School in Englewood, Fla., in May where he was active in National Honor Society, Technology Student Association, web club, marching band, symphonic band, and indoor drumline. Lucia has been accepted at Florida International University in Miami and will pursue a mechanical engineering degree in the fall of 2009. He is the son of Robert and Cindy Lucia of Port Charlotte, Fla., and was a former Sheffield High School student.

Casey J. Branthoover of Warren, son of Michael and Theresa Keith Himes and Allan and Becky Branthoover, has been awarded a Trustee Scholarship by Allegheny College, Meadville,. Branthoover is a recent graduate of Warren Area High School. The Trustee Scholarship is an achievement-based award that is guaranteed for four years of study at Allegheny. The scholarship recognizes academic excellence, as well as achievements in extracurricular and leadership activities.

Alannah Labesky, daughter of Matthew and Deborah Labesky, Warren, has been accepted to Clarion University for the fall semester. She will study elementary education for grades four through eight, and towards a certification in Spanish grades K-12. Alannah has been active as a volunteer in both WAHS main and guidance offices, parishioner of St. Joseph RC Church, and is assistant manager of The Shoe Dept.

At the 159th Commencement at Bucknell University, Lewisburg, Pa., Robert L. Zorn Jr. received the degree of master of science in electrical engineering. Zorn is a member of the university staff and also holds a bachelor of science degree from Bucknell University. He is a graduate of Tidioute High School and is the son of the Rev. and Mrs. Robert L. Zorn, formerly of Tidioute.
