BATAVIA, N.Y. - It's a little late, but the Jamestown Jammers extracted a measure of revenge on the Batavia Muckdogs on Wednesday night.
In a rematch of last year's New York-Penn League Championship Series, won by Batavia in 2008, the Jammers scored the game's only run in the top of the sixth inning, moving out of the Pinckney Division cellar with a 1-0 victory.
Pitching and defense ruled the night despite the game featuring 18 total hits - eight of which came off the bats of the Jammers (5-7). One night after Sequoyah Stonecipher came through with a game winner for Jamestown, Rand Smith delivered with an RBI single in the sixth that plated Richard Orton.
The Jammers pitching staff took care of the rest.
Starting pitcher Sandy Rosario got the win, going five innings and allowing seven hits. Kenny Fernandez got the hold pitching into the eighth and Erick Camillo earned his first professional save.
Jamestown looks to make it three wins in a row on Thursday when it hosts the Muckdogs. The regularly scheduled contest will be preceded by the completion of a game suspended by rain on June 25.
