FRAC Act
Dear editor:
Senator Casey is to be commended for joining U.S. Reps. Diana DeGette (D-CO), Maurice Hinchey (D-NY) and Jared Polis (D-CO) in introducing companion Senate and House bills: The FRAC Act - Fracturing Responsibility and Awareness of Chemicals Act, amending the Safe Drinking Water Act. This legislation will repeal an exemption that allows the oil and gas industry to keep secret the chemicals used when they drill wells. These chemicals, many of them known carcinogens, are used in the hydro-fracturing process for oil and gas extraction.
This process can contaminate private and municipal drinking water supplies. In fact, in 2006, the DEP revealed that some oil and gas companies were taking short-cuts in the hydro-fracturing process in order to save money, which resulted in an increase in gas migrations. Coincidentally, gas migrations are to blame for contaminating several private water wells along Hedgehog Lane in Bradford, PA, where Ohio-based Schreiner Oil and Gas Co. was drilling last fall.
The public has a right to know what chemicals are being used in the hydro-fracturing process, especially if those chemicals could end up in our drinking water.
Sincerely,
Cathy Pedler

"don't blame me".... The new right-wing mantra to try to sleaze their way out of responsibility for what they did or caused. So predictably typical. So Cathy is a Kook for thinking that our water and aquifers need to be properly protected? And you don't think those who pump God knows what into the ground, including carcinogens, and unknown polluting mixtures aren't "kooks"? Thinking they can do unknown damage to all our water so THEY can make a quick profit? Who are the kooks? People wanting to protect the earth for future generations to enjoy over those who rape the land for obscene selfish profits? The ADP simply wants reasonable, established environmental laws enforced. How kooky is that? You should re-think your kooky views. And understand that more and more stricter environmental laws are coming down the pike. So hold onto you britches! It's only going to get worse for you and your fellow kooks.

Ha ha, don't blame me. It's very simple: don't act like/be a kook and people won't call you a kook. Otherwise, expect people to call a spade a spade.

WTO commentator- Did you ever hear "it takes one to know one" (KOOK!) First of all the ADP has a better reputation than you can ever imagine. Only the real "kooks" in the area have a low opinion of them. And by the way, the ADP was part of the only one of five oil related lawsuits, and that one was settled. The other four "frivolous suits" filed by the local oil producers haven't gone anywhere. And do I need to give you examples of how "KOOKY" our local oil producers are? Like "local boys", that tout themselves as "family oil businesses" that hop in bed with the likes of Paul Hindelang and George Basch of Shaboom Oil? You still wanna talk "kooks".........

Senator Casey's gotta be thinking "Ehrrrm yeah...great....thanks a whole lot for associating my name with your kooky organization among a constituency who can't stand you. That is a real big help. While you're at it, can you tie me in to the MOVE kooks in Philadelphia too?' LOL.

I totally agree and commend Senator Casey. Water is what sustains all life...if we don't have clean, safe water what is the value of anything else. Those that are supporting the oil/gas industry and advocate the position that DEP can monitor the situation need to acknowledge the contamination that has already occurred and talk to people in the DEP. In McKean County alone there are over 53,000 active wells and two officials to monitor them. It is ridiculous to think they can do an adequate job of appropriate oversight. The Marcellus drilling is new to Pa. and there are many unknowns and serious ramifications. When Pa becomes a toxic waste land and the gas companies leave with their millions we will be left saying...how did we let this happen.
