NORMAN MCDANEL

Norman K. McDanel, 82, Clarendon, Pa., and formerly of Elwood City and New Castle, Pa., passed away on Monday, June 29, 2009 at the Warren Manor.

Norman was born June 8, 1927, in Portersville, Pa., the son of the late Paul E. and Lela Wimer McDanel. Mr. McDanel was Methodist by faith. He was raised in the Ellwood City area and attended Lincoln High School.

He was then drafted into the U.S. Army, which took him to Europe. He was there during the war crime trials. He then moved on to New Castle, where he attended carpentry school for craftsmen at Terrace School for craftsmen. He was also trained in welding. Moving on to Warren, he was employed by the New Process Company for 18 years, then went to work for the State Hospital in North Warren for 22 years, retiring on January 5, 1990.

He had a variety of interests. He learned to knit and received a blue ribbon at the Warren County Fair for an unusual afghan that he made. He enjoyed restoring a Model A 1930 Coupe and a 1931 Model A pick up truck. Norman loved to travel, having been through all of the United States and many places throughout the world. He also enjoyed and took great pride in raising flowers and shrubs.

He is survived by his wife, Lois Joan Egger McDanel, Clarendon, whom he married on Oc

tober 5, 1971 in Mayville, N.Y.; a son, Gerald McDanel and Nancy, Lottsville, Pa.; a daughter, Sue Ellen Gierster and her husband Jack, San Diego, Calif.; a brother, Raymond McDanel, N. Chile, N.Y.; two grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and five greatgrandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, David McDanel on May 2, 1993; and a brother, Cecil McDanel on September 18, 1986.

Friends may call at the Peterson Blick Funeral Home, Inc., 1003 Penn Ave. E., Warren, on Thursday July 2, from 6 8 p.m. and for one hour prior to a funeral service to be held there on Friday, July 3, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Kevin Haley, pastor, Grace United Methodist Church, officiating.

Burial will be in the Pine Grove Cemetery.
