Two local students graduated from Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania this spring: Walter Elmquist of Sheffield earned a degree in applied geology, and Bethany Burnell of Sugar Grove earned a degree in secondary education.

Two local students graduated from Thiel College, Greenville, on May 3. Kevin Matthew Farr graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor of arts degree in communication sciences and disorders. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Q. Farr of Warren, Farr also earned departmental honors. Jenna Majken Schmader received a bachelor of arts degree in sociology and criminal justice studies. She is a member of the Pre-law Society. Schmader is the daughter of Michelle Schmader and Nick Schmader, both of Warren.

James R. Zorich of Warren has been accepted at Gannon University, Erie, and will begin classes in the fall 2009 semester in the physical therapy program, majoring in biology. Zorich is the son of Ron and Voula Zorich and is a recent graduate of Warren Area High School. He was a member of the high school baseball team and was active in student council. Zorich has earned the Eagle Scout badge and is an altar server at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church.

Daniel P. Maljovec of Warren was honored at the May commencement ceremony for Gannon University, Erie. Maljovec was a recipient of the University's Archbishop John Mark Gannon Award, presented for academic excellence in memory of Gannon's founder, Archbishop John Mark Gannon. He was one of only 12 students in his class to graduate with a perfect 4.0 grade point average. Maljovec is the son of John and Patricia Maljovec and is a graduate of Warren Area High School. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in computer science.

At the 159th commencement at Bucknell University, Lewisburg, Robert L. Zorn, Jr. received the degree of master of science in electrical engineering. Zorn is a member of the university staff and holds a bachelor of science degree from Bucknell University. Zorn is a graduate of Tidioute High School. He is the son of the Rev. and Mrs. Robert L. Zorn, formerly of Tidioute.

Vincent M. DelPrince graduated on May 16 from the Pennsylvania State University, main campus, with a degree in mathematics, actuarial science option and a minor in statistics. DelPrince graduated with highest distinction and was a recipient of the President's Freshman Award, President Sparks and Evan Pugh Scholar Awards (junior and senior). From the Penn State Mathematics Department, he also received the Kermit Anderson and Leonhard Euler Memorial Scholarships. He has accepted a position as a senior actualist analyst with Hartford Life in Simsbury, Ct. DelPrince is a 2005 graduate of Eisenhower High School and is the son of Michael and Teresa DelPrince of Russell.

Morgan Lee Rizzardi graduated on May 3 from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) with a master of arts degree in student affairs in higher education. While at IUP, Rizzardi was granted a graduate assistantship within the Advising and Testing Center in which she worked with the parent orientation program, Welcome Weekend, and Disability Support Services. She also completed two 150-hour graduate internships with the CareerWorks office at Seton Hill University in Greensburg and The Entertainment Network, part of the Student Cooperative Association at IUP.
Rizzardi received the Nancy J. Newkerk Scholarship Award in November 2008, an honor of Nancy J. Newkerk who served as dean of students for women at IUP for several years. The scholarship is offered to students who show promise as practitioners in this elite field upon completion of their first year within the graduate program. Rizzardi was also one of the recipients of a scholarship to attend the American College Student Personnel conference in Washington, D.C., in April 2009.
At IUP, Rizzardi was vice president for professional development in the departmental organization Associates for Student Development, a campus-wide Common Freshman Reader Implementation Committee, and was a member of the Student Success Fair Committee, Move-In Committee, and was coordinator of the 2008 Welcome Weekend for incoming students.
Rizzardi is the daughter of Louis and Penny Rizzardi of Warren.

Tamara Seastrum, daughter of Thomas and Deborah Seastrum of Warren, has been accepted at Edinboro University for the fall semester. A recent graduate of Warren Area High School, she has been active in art club, French club, DOCKS (the youth group at First Church of the Nazarene, Warren), Warren Art League and National Art Honor Society. She plans to major in photography with a minor in art history.

Elizabeth Dunn of Warren will serve as a summer orientation advisor at Gannon University, Erie. She is the daughter of Kermit and Ramona Dunn and is a graduate of Warren Area High School. Orientation advisors are Gannon students who volunteer to assist the director of new student services in the school's summer program. They conduct registration tours and social and recreational activities and assist new students and parents in exploring the opportunities, programs and services of Gannon.
