Ina Carol Harrington, 75, of 406 East St., Warren, Pa. died Monday morning, May 25, 2009 at Warren General Hospital after an extended illness.
She was born October 1, 1933 in Warren, to the late Elwin and Edna Neer Safford of Russell, Pa. She resided in the Warren area most of her life and with her husband was a two year resident at both Ft. George G. Meade, Md. and also in Brussels, Belgium, where she traveled extensively throughout Europe. Ina was a 1951 graduate of Warren High School.
Prior to her marriage, she was employed as an executive secretary with the former Struthers Wells Corporation, G.T.E. Sylvania and Hammond Iron Works and in Florida with an architectural firm.
On May 31, 1958 she married her husband, Robert J. Harrington in Warren and left her employment to devote herself to her two children and her marriage of 51 years. After her raising her two sons, she obtained her real estate license and worked for Janet C. Templeton Real Estate as a real estate associate.
At various times during the course of her life, she was known locally as an accomplished roller skater, as a 4th of July Parade Queen in the 1950s, for enjoying tennis and being very artistic, especially when it came to interior decorating. She truly enjoyed living in her home. She was an avid animal lover, especially dogs.
She is survived by her husband, Robert J. Harrington; two sons, Robert J. Harrington Jr. of Boca Raton, Fla., Lance M. Harrington of Williamsburg, Va.; one sister, Jean Moore of Charlotte, N.C.; one grandson, Robert Scott Harrington of Williamsburg, Va., one granddaughter, Aerial Benes of Boca Raton, Fla.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Charlotte Whisner; one brother, Robert Safford.
Friends may call at the Donald E. Lewis Funeral Home, Inc., 304 East Street, Warren, Pa. on Monday, June 1, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph R.C. Church with Rev. Fr. Walter E. Packard, pastor, officiating. A private entombment will be in the Mausoleum of the Resurrection in St. Joseph Cemetery.
