Jamestown truck driver dies in Rt. 27 accident
By STEPHANIE HAMM shamm@timesobserver.comA Jamestown, N.Y., man was killed Thursday afternoon in a tractor trailer rollover crash in Sugar Grove Township.
Warren-based state police said John E. Jackson, 46, of Jamestown was attempting to negotiate a left curve on Route 27 near Swede Hollow Road when the northbound 1997 Ford truck registered to Jones Carroll Inc. traveled 230 feet off the east berm at 12:40 p.m.
Police said Jackson attempted to regain control by traveling 46 feet back onto the roadway, then counter steering causing the truck to roll onto its left side.
According to police, the truck slid along the roadway before striking a guardrail and concrete bridge and stopping on its left side facing east.
Jackson was pronounced dead at the scene by Deputy Warren County Coroner Stanley Taydus, said police.
Volunteer firefighters from Sugar Grove, Youngsville and Busti, N.Y.; Warren County Emergency Response Unit, Emergycare, and the personnel from the state Department of Environmental Protection assisted at the scene.
Due to the crash, Route 27 was closed at 2 p.m. Thursday from Swede Hollow Road to Jackson Run Road. A detour was put in place utilizing Route 6, to Route 958, to Route 957, to Route 69 and back to Route 27.
The road is expected to re-open at 9 a.m. Friday.
