Vivian Marie VanArsdale Johnson, 95, passed away on May 4, 2009 at the Shenandoah Nursing Home in Fishersville, Va.
Vivian was born on April 9, 1914 in Pine Grove, Pa. She was the third of 11 children born to Philip and Della Martin VanArsdale, who were long time residents of Warren County, Pennsylvania and the Frewsburg, New York area.
Vivian graduated from Meadville City Hospital School of Nursing in 1942 with an RN degree. She worked as a registered nurse for several years before marrying Kenneth E. Johnson in 1949. At that time, she became a mother to stepson Kenneth E. Johnson Jr.
Vivian was a long time resident of Akeley, Pa. and a member of the Cable Hollow Church. In 2001, Vivian moved to Staunton Va. to live in her nephews' assisted living home. While there, she became a member of the Waynesboro Seventh day Adventist Church.
Vivian loved to do hand work like knitting, crocheting, tatting, sewing and cooking. Music was very important to her and she enjoyed playing her organ and watching Gaither videos whenever she could.
Vivian was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and stepson; three sisters, Izora Knapp, Orpha Newman and Catherine Andrews; and five brothers, Phillip, Charles, Kenneth, Perry and Hial VanArsdale.
Survivors include two brothers, Paul VanArsdale of Buffalo, N.Y. and Sterl VanArsdale of Frewsburg, N.Y.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the PetersonBlick Funeral Home, Inc. 1003 Penn Ave. E., Warren, on Friday, May 8, 2009 from 68 p.m. and a funeral service will be held there on Saturday, May 9, 2009 at 11 a.m., with, Rev. Steven Sorensen, officiating.
Burial will follow in the Hale Cemetery, Akeley, in Warren County.
