Emory R. Rhoades, 78, of Jamestown, N.Y. and Edgewater, Fla. died at 2:32 a.m. Saturday (April 18, 2009) in WCA Hospital.
An area resident for most of his life, he was born January 17, 1931 in Pittsfield, Pa., a son of the late Melvin Ira and Sara B. Kissner Rhoades.
He was a graduate of Youngsville Area High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War from August 20, 1952 to May 22, 1954.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a machinist for MRCTRW where he worked for 38 years. Following his retirement he worked for Rand Machine Company for a short time.
He attended the Sugar Grove Mission Covenant Church and also the First Baptist Church in Oak Hill, Fla. He was a life member of the John W. Tiffany Post 53 Veteran of Foreign Wars and loved to spend time outdoors hunting and fishing.
Surviving are his wife, the former Geraldine Moore, whom he married September 2, 1955; two sons, Carey (Arlene) Rhoades, of Lexington, N.C., Cecil (Barb) Rhoades of Jamestown, N.Y.; a daughter, Elizabeth "Libby" (Dave) Childs, of Sugar Grove; 11 grandchildren, Ben (Gloria) Rhoades, Daniel Rhoades, Cindy (Estaban) Lopez, Andy Rodriquez, all of North Carolina, Jose Rodriquez, serving in Kuwait, Rachel Rhoades of Canada, Jim (Ashley) Rhoades, of Stockton, N.Y., Brad Rhoades, of Cassadaga, N.Y., Amanda, Christina, Andrew Childs, all of Sugar Grove; five great grandchildren; a sister, Edith Shine, of Warren; many nieces and nephews, including his special niece, Patricia Johnson, of Jamestown.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Scott Emory Rhoades; a brother, Howard Rhoades; four sisters, Audrey Logan, Melva Seth, Rachel Mary Osborne, and Dorothy Bell Rhoades.
The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home. Pastor Brian Haight, of the Sugar Grove Mission Covenant Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 79 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
