AARP to lunchThe Local chapter of the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP 4297) will meet at 1 p.m. at Kim's Cafe (Liberty St., Warren) for lunch. At 2:30 p.m. members will meet at the Warren Senior Community Center on Fourth Ave, for a guest speaker, Josie Gerardi, on gardens for spring planting. Make inquiries to 723 7814. As always new members and anyone wanting to see what AARP chapter is about are welcome.
Doll club to meet
The Kinzua Country Dollers doll club will meet from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 14, in the Jefferson Room of the Warren Public Library. The business meeting will precede the program which is entitled "Dolly-ing Across the Country." This title reveals the travels of members to many other interesting sites and meetings centered around dolls and doll collecting. In this way, doll enthusiasts get ideas from other doll clubs, dig out facts and figures about dolls, and develop friendships with people in many different places.
Some club members will speak about the doll luncheon held in Erie in April 2008 which centered around the "Kewpie Doll." A second topic will be a review of the United Federation of Doll Club's regional meeting which took place in Albany, N.Y. The third topic will be about the North Carolina Doll Market and experiences that were had there. Speakers presenting these topics will be Marsha Kosinski, Barb Roth, Rosemary Flatt and a surprise speaker. New members are welcome to attend.

sexual addictions
"Sex & Love Addictions A 21 Century Challenge" seminar sponsored by the Chautauqua Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Council is scheduled for Monday, March 30. The term "sexual addiction" is used to describe the behavior of a person who has an unusually intense sex drive or an obsession with sex. Sex and the thoughts of sex tend to dominate the sex addict's thinking, making it difficult to work or engage in healthy personal relationships.
This training will cover and introduction to sexual addiction; what behaviors are associated with sexual addiction and how is sexual addiction treated? Participants will understand the impact of the Internet, alcohol and other drugs, and a sexualized media on social perceptions of masculinity and femininity.
The Presenter, Carol Conklin, LCSW-R has twelve years of specialization in evaluation and treatment of sexual compulsivity. She is the Founder/Executive Director of City Gate Counseling Center, Private Practice, in Buffalo, NY. She appeared on several television talk shows as an "Expert" guest on the topic. The seminar will be held on Monday, March 30, from 1 to 4:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 219 Central Ave., Fredonia, N.Y., near the college.
The public is welcome to attend. There is a $40 fee and pre-registration is required.
This course is also suitable for those seeking professional credentialing as a Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC); Credentialed Prevention Professional (CPP) or Credentialed Prevention Specialist (CPS). The 3.5 hours are approved by the New York State Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services for Initial and Renewal CASAC (Section 2), CPP & CPS (Section 1). This course work is also recognized and approved by the Pennsylvania Certification Board through reciprocity.

Warren Area High School Class of 1964 will have a reunion planning meeting at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 12, at Perkins in Warren.
Lenten service
A community Lenten service will be held at noon Thursday, March 12, at First United Methodist Church, 200 Market St., Warren. The Rev. Frank Lanza will preach, and Dawn Swanson will be liturgist. A light lunch will follow, served by the Logos and Pittsburgh Project participants from First United Methodist, at 12:30 p.m., allowing those who are on their lunch break to return to work by 1 p.m.

The Beckly Room at the Warren Library is offering an Overview of Window's Desktop and Control Panel at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 11. Class size is limited, so call the library at 723-4650 for reservations.

Jazz March 17
This month's Warren Public Library Classic Jazz program, "Second Salute to the 78s," with host Chase Putnam, will be presented on Tuesday, March 17, at 7 p.m. in the Slater Room. The first library session to feature only 78 rpm recordings since November 2003, the music this month will include selections taped from records by jazz musicians such as Miff Mole, Pee Wee Hunt, Bunk Johnson, Pete Daily, Jean Goldkette, Turk Murphy, Benny Goodman and Teddy Wilson. The original records were pressed from about 1925 to the mid-1950s. The program will be free and open to the public.
Pancakes served
Join friends and family at Barnes United Methodist Church for a pancake supper with maple syrup from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, March 21. Cost will be a donation. Pancakes are being prepared by the United Methodist Men. The church is located a mile from Sheffield on Rt. 666.
