Dr. Harold Walter Van Gilder, 79, of 10 Nathan Road, Warren, Pa., died at his residence, Thursday evening, December 11, 2008.

He was born on June 29, 1929 in Toledo, Ohio, son of the late Harold W. and Lilas Baumie Van Gilder. He was raised in Monroe, Mi., and was a graduate of Catholic Central High School in Toledo.

He had served during the Korean Conflict from Janu-ary 3, 1951 in the U.S. Navy as a dental technician based in San Diego and was honor-ably discharged November 1, 1954.

He graduated from the University of Detroit Dental School in 1960 and prac-ticed general dentistry in Belleville and Wayne, Mi.

From 1966 to 1968, he was enrolled in an oral and maxillofacial surgery course at the VA Hospital of Pitts-burgh, Oakland, and com-pleted Anesthesia Training at the University of Pitts-burgh.

He came to Warren to practice as an oral surgeon at the Warren General Hospital from 1970 to 2000. Harold enjoyed family, friends, the outdoors, hunting, fishing and his golden retrievers. He will be remembered for his sense of humor.

He married Sharie Husted Ramsey Van Gilder on June 17, 1967, in Wayne, Mich.

Surviving besides his wife are two children, Kurt Ramsey of San Carlos, Ca. and Denise Ramsey of Bluff-ton, S.C.; twin sister, Maryon Van Gilder of Dal-las, Tx.; sister, Mary Van Gilder, IHM of Rochester Hills, Mi.; an additional sis-ter, Blanche Hunt and her husband, Jack of Dallas, Tx.; one brother, James Van Gild-er and his wife, Marianna of Rockport, Tx.; one cousin, Joe Baumie of Inman, S.C.; nieces and nephews, Mary Blanche Patterson, Dallas, Lilas (Jon) McDonald, Matthew and Rachel, all of Harper Woods, Mi., John Hunt (Ann), Katie, Kelly, Kerry and John III of Memphis, Tn., Jim II (Michelle) Van Gilder, Jam-ie, Austin and Taylor of Dal-las, Debbie Hovitz (Chuck), Chas, Whitney Davis and Roger, Christina of Dallas. Special friends include Bill, Sue and Kyle Wilson and Chuck and Lou Ann Gadsby of Warren, Pa.

Friends may call at the Donald E. Lewis Funeral Home, Inc., 304 East Street, Warren, Pa. from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Monday, where a vi-gil service will be conducted at 7:45 p.m. by Sister, Mary Van Gilder.

A private Mass of Chris-tian Burial will be conduct-ed at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church at the con-venience of the family by Rev. Fr. Walter E. Packard, Pastor, officiating.

Interment will be in St. Joseph Roman Catholic Cemetery, where full mili-tary honors will be con-ducted by members the Shef-field and Clarendon V.F.W. Funeral Detail and the U.S. Navy personnel.

The family suggest in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Hospice of Warren County, 2 Crescent Park, Warren, Pa. 16365 or the Warren County Humane So-ciety, Elm Street, Warren, Pa. 16365 or a charity of ones choice.
