Roger and Verna Mae Phelps celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at a celebration at Cable Hollow Golf Course on Oct. 25, 2008. The celebration was hosted by their children, Steve & Jenna Phelps, Faye and Tim Hammersley, and Dave and Donna Phelps. The couple received an orchid corsage and boutonniere similar to their wedding flowers.
Aides for the party were Donna Phelps who cut and served the cake, and Kayla Swab who took pictures.
Mr. and Mrs. Phelps were married by the Rev. John Andre at First Church of the Nazarene on Oct. 24, 1958, with a reception at Glade Fire Hall following. Mr. Phelps works at National Forge for 40 years, and Mrs. Phelps worked at New Process (Blair Corp.) for four years then was a homemaker. They have three children, 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
