Jenna Raynor’s bid for a second straight trip to the state tennis tournament came up short last weekend at the Village Glen in Williamsville in the Section 6 tournament.
The Chautauqua Lake senior won her first-round singles match, 6-2, 6-2, over Courtney Smith of John F. Kennedy High School. She fell in the quarterfinals to Franzi Wohlfrath of Frontier, 6-1, 3-6, 6-2.
Raynor’s teammate, Joni Keating lost to Miranda Podlas of Williamsville, 6-1, 6-0, in the first round.
Chautauqua Lake defeated Franklinville, 4-0, in the Section 6 playoffs.
Bryan Fish scored all four goals while Jordan Reynolds had four saves in goal for the Thunderbirds.
Chautauqua Lake defeated Sherman, 20-0.
Tony Dechario had 151 yards rushing and one touchdown for the Thunderbirds. He went over 1,000 yards rushing for the season. Travis Fisher had nine tackles and Mike McLaughlin had eight tackles for the Thunderbirds on defense.
Southwestern defeated Chautauqua Lake, 119-66.
Andrea Schmitt won the 200 freestyle and 100 breaststroke. She was also part of the winning 200 freestyle relay that set a school record with a time of 1:52.22. Other team members were Emily Hamilton, Kate Johnson and Alicia Gleason.
