Tenor Emmons opens Philomel season

Members and guests of the Philomel Club of Warren were greeted by president Marjorie Lopez at the Woman's Club on Oct. 1. Guest artist Steve Emmons is a fifth-year undergraduate music student at Fredonia State University majoring in applied voice. He was accompanied by G. Mary Matteson, a teacher of piano and voice and an accompanist at the university. Emmons performed: "Die Ehre Gottes aus der Natur" by Ludwig Van Beethoven; "Auch klienie Dinge" by Hugo Wolf; "Ah,che ordor di buono" and "Luoghi sereni e cari" by Stefano Donaudy; "Lydia" by Gabriel Faure and "Le fidele Coeur" by Paul Vidal; ending the program with "A Young Man's Exhortation" by Gerald Finzi, which consisted of "Shortening Days" The Sigh," "Transformations" and "The Dance Continued ('Regret Not Me)."

Members convened in the historic Woman's Club dining room where dessert was served. Tables were decorated with stems of fruit on leaf-shaped place mats. Lopez was hostess with the Philomel Board of Directors as the committee. The next meeting will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, hosted by the Mozart Club at the Sheldon House in Jamestown, N.Y.
