Trip planned
Spaces remain for the Warren Senior Center (800 Pennsylvania Ave. W.) trip to Niagara-on-the-Lake, planned for Oct. 30-31. Included in the cost will be two plays, "Getting Married" and "An Inspector Calls," one lunch, two dinners, the hotel, bus and more. CDA to meet
Catholic Daughters of the Americas (CDA) of Sheffield and Warren, Court De La Roque 657, will meet Thursday, Oct. 9, after 6 p.m. Mass at St. Anthony's R.C. Church. Committee members for the meeting will be Mary Jane Ritchie, Donna Miller, Florence Scalise and Lucy Notoro. Members are reminded to take an item for the fall basket
Free workshop
"Resumes, Cover Letters and Job Search Techniques" will be the topic of a free workshop at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, at the Warren Public Library. The class will meet in the Slater Room on the third floor of the library. In these uncertain economic times, it is wise to have an up-to-date well-written resume and cover letter. Barbara Deike, M.S.Ed., an employment development specialist at Jamestown Community College with six years of experience in career counseling and development, will share her vast knowledge of the requirements of effective resumes and cover letters.
The workshop content will include how to write resumes and cover letters that will increase your chances of getting an interview; job search techniques that will allow you to find a job in less time; a question and answer session to allow questions pertaining to attendees specific circumstance. Pre-registration is mandatory, and a minimum of four people is required for the class to be held. To register, call 723-4650 before Oct. 20.
St. Luke's Knights
Saint Luke's Church Knights of Columbus Council 13006 will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, in the basement of the church. All Knights are asked to attend this important meeting.
Benefit planned
Friends and family of Richard Kinnear of Titusville will host a benefit spaghetti dinner from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at the American Legion, 113 E. Central Ave., Titusville. Kinnear is a veteran of the Vietnam War who worked a number of years at the former Pennco in Warren and later in Erie. He is courageously battling pancreatic cancer. Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend. There will be a Chinese auction, 50/50 drawing and door prizes. Donations also are being accepted at any National City branch office. Donations for the Chinese auction also are being accepted; pick-up can be arranged by calling 723-5489.
Ostomy support
Warren Area Chapter of the Ostomy Association will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, in Classroom A at Warren General Hospital. A presentation will be made on dealing with changes in appearance and body functions after ostomy surgery.
Chili Cook-Off
The second annual Chili Cook-Off will be held Saturday, Oct. 11, at Chandlers Valley Area Community Center. The day will include bluegrass and country music by "Circle M. Ranch" and prizes. Cooks will meet at 8 a.m., and public tasting and voting will begin at 11:30 a.m. For more information or to sign up to compete, call 563-9523.
To polka Sunday
The Slovenian Polka Boosters will dance from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, at the Elk Casino. Karl Lukitsch of Pittsburgh will provide music.
