Learn safe driving

The Warren YMCA will host the new AARP Driver Safety Program, Edition 6, on Tuesday, Sept. 23, and Wednesday Sept. 24, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The course will be presented at the Warren YMCA in two four-hour sessions.

Drivers who are older than 50 who frequently drive may benefit greatly by participating in the AARP's refresher driving course. Why should you take the AARP Driver Safety class? This course is intended to increase your personal safety by covering the basics of defensive driving. Just as important, the course is designed to make you aware of how changes in vision, hearing and physical reflexes due to aging can impact your driving. You may be eligible for an automobile insurance premium reduction or discount (ask your insurance agent; all drivers in the household may have to take the course) and there are no tests (written or driving).

The class is only $10 per person, paid by check to AARP or cash to the instructor on the first day of class. You do not have to be a member of AARP or the YMCA to take the course. Advanced registration is recommended as class is limited to 30 attendees. The course will be taught at by Lawrence (Larry) Jackson. Larry is a recently retired highway accident investigator who worked with the National Transportation Safety Board for 28 years.

Call the YMCA at 726-0110 for registration. For more information on the course, see the AARP Web site at www.aarp.org/families/driver_safety.
