Warren controlled its soccer match on Thursday, a 5-1 Region 2 win over Titusville at War Memorial Field.

It started and ended nicely for the Dragons.

It was 3-0 at the half as Mark Schoenborn scored off an assist from Matt King 10 minutes in. Then Troy Burns scored twice, in the 16th minute from Christian Foley and the 26th minute from Mark Schoenborn.

"It was good to see them settle in quickly," said Warren coach Mark Evans.

Ethan Beardsley scored on a penalty kick early in the second half for a 4-0 lead, and Burns later assisted Christian Foley for the second goal of the half on a beautiful play. Burns was deep left, beat one defender and hit a hard, low cross to Foley as he arrived at full speed and side footed it in.

Titusville's only goal, by Neil Coleman, was on a penalty kick and they were never close.

Eric Decker was in goal for Warren, Jared Zawacki and Christian Harrington played well at sweeper and Dylan Moore at fullback.

Warren (1-0 in region, 2-0 overall) hosts Corry at 11 a.m. Saturday at War Memorial Field.

Warren won the junior varsity game, 9-0, over Titusville. Mark Wenger had three goals, Joel Heffner two and Eddie Dorunda, Stanley Lyle, Andrew Nuttal and Jeffrey Bonavita also scored goals. Heffner had two assists, Brad Simmons two, and Harrington and Tyler Madigan one each. Joe Passaro and Jake Lawson were the shutout goalies.

Eisenhower 9, Maplewood 0

Eisenhower improved to 2-0 on the young season with its second shutout in two days, a 9-0 thumping of Maplewood at Eisenhower High School.

"We had another opportunity to play some younger players today," said Eisenhower coach Mike Decker. "Things still aren't quite as smooth as we'd like, but we're getting there."

Garrett Fiscus started the scoring just nine minutes in with the first of his two goals. Conor Flynn and Dan Lane each recorded a hat trick during the contest with Nick Thomas also adding a goal.

Nick Pace chipped in two assists and Lane, Flynn, Preston Perrotti and Paul Sherer had one each.

Greg VanOrd had two saves and backup keeper Will Cole had four of his own to preserve the shutout.

Eisenhower visits Titusville at 11 a.m. Saturday.
