Another Intentional Spill

By CHUCK HAYES chayes@timesobserver.com
POSTED: September 4, 2008

Another intentional oil spill has occurred in McKean County.

This time the quantity of crude oil spilled is smaller than the spill which devastated several waterways last month.

State police in Mount Jewett said on Thursday that the latest incident took place between 11 a.m. on Aug. 29 and 7:20 a.m. on Sept. 2.

State police said that a valve on an oil storage tank was opened, releasing approximately 84 gallons of crude oil.

Those responsible then fled the scene, said state police.

In Friday's Times Observer: How secure are crude oil tank batteries?

ok first off there is an oil refinery right on the river, drilling some wells isn't gonna hurt anyone. actually it'll help keep taxes in the city lower.

And to think our City Officials want to drill right here in town, Now let's just set back and visualize something like this happening Next to the river (Near the river is their proposed drill sites) Now just who's bright idea is it to Drill in the city? I think we need to take a MUCH closer look at what COULD happen if another Intentional Spill happened at one of these proposed sites? Either the River will get polluted, Our drinking water supply will be destroyed, or if they drill by the high school and there is a spill, well I don't think I have to paint that picture for anyone! Someone best think about the what ifs instead of money in their pockets.
