CASAC will offer prevention program

A "Presenter Certification Training for Beginning Awareness Basic Education Studies (BABES)" will be offered through the Chautauqua Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Council. This training is geared towards child care directors, third tier child care providers, classroom teachers, and after school age program coordinators, and counselors.

BABES is a nationally and internationally recognized prevention program (appearing in 50 states and 11 countries). This program is extremely popular with children and teachers. The Basic BABES program is designed to help children in grades K through three learn skills to make good decisions, cope with unpleasant situations, manage peer pressure, distinguish between the use and abuse of alcohol and other drugs, and identify helping resources through the use of colorful puppets, stories and songs. Only certified presenters are authorized to present the BABES programs in their schools and communities.

On Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 17-18, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Friday, Sept. 19, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Kathleen Colby, certified master trainer, will conduct a BABES presenter certification training." In this 17-hour course, participants will familiarize themselves with the BABES program and application of the curriculum theory and practices throughout the seven story sessions. Trainees will feel confident in their ability to present the program while creating a safe and positive learning environment with the ultimate goal of developing healthy living skills for the children they care for, instruct or counsel.

This 17 CASAC/CPP/CPS hours NYS OASAS approved training, sponsored by the Council, is scheduled to be offered at the Council's Jamestown Office. Pre registration is required. The fee is $805.00. The cost includes a complete kit $550 and registration $270 (kit is optional).

Consider attending if you are a licensed or registered day care providers working towards your required 30 hours of training; aspiring to learn more about chemical dependency or seeking professional credentialing as a Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC); Credentialed Prevention Professional (CPP) or Credentialed Prevention Specialist (CPS). The Council is an Educational Incentive Program Provider (E.I.P.) The training is also approved by New York State Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) for CASAC/CPP/CPS hours. This course work is recognized and approved by the Pennsylvania Certification Board through reciprocity. This training can be used to fulfill training requirements in Principles of Early Childhood Development, five hours.

The council offers a number of professional training opportunities throughout the year. Individualize on-site training, depending upon staff needs, is available. All training can be designed either as an in-service training, conferences or workshop.
