Chautauqua Shores Sweet Adelines, an affiliate of Sweet Adelines International, is a local group of women of all ages who promote barbershop-style singing in the feminine genre. The group believes in "harmonizing the world with a song." They sing ballads, up-tunes, love songs, patriotic numbers, holiday favorites and more. Every three years, the group sings special competition songs in Syracuse, N.Y., at the Region 16 Contest. They also hold a special show every three years, and will have one in the spring of 2009.
The group has openings in lead, baritone, tenor and bass sections and has members in those parts waiting to assist new singers. Some members sing in quartets.
On Aug. 9, the Adelines performed for the "Lamplighters" senior meeting at Busti, N.Y., Church of God. Refreshments followed the program. On Aug. 13, the Adelines sang at Concord Estates Senior Apartments, Dunkirk, N.Y. They will sing the National Anthem at Dietrich Park, Jamestown, N.Y., for the Little League World Series at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 18.
