FRANKLIN HIGGINS

Franklin Allen Higgins, 81, 136 Callendar St., Warren, Pa. died Monday evening, August 11, 2008 at the Warren Manor Nursing Home after a few days stay as a result of acute leukemia.

He was born July 11, 1927 in Boston, Mass., to the late Allen and Lillian Zwicker Higgins.

He was a Warren resident for 45 years and was a graduate of Northeastern University Class of 1952 where he earned a bachelors of science degree in Mechanical Engineering and earned a Masters Degree from Buffalo University.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II as a staff sergeant and a flight engineer and served 20 years with the National Guard where he was called back into service during the Berlin Crisis.

He was employed with the former Struthers Wells Corporation as Vice President of the Navy Nuclear Program, retiring from there after many years service.

He was past president and a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, a member of the American Auto Engineers, past president of the Blueberry Golf Course Senior Golf League, Lakewood Rod & Gun Club and the Mayflower Society of Massachusetts.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dorothy Beattie Higgins whom he married May 28, 1955 in Boston, Mass.; one son, James Allen Higgins and his wife, Anne of Warren, Pa.; one brother, Robert Higgins of Tewksbury, Mass; two grandchildren, Abigail and Drew Higgins, both of Warren, Pa.

Friends may call at the Donald E. Lewis Funeral Home, Inc., 304 East Street, Warren, Pa. from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Friday where a funeral service will be conducted by Rev. Marcus Briggs, Chaplain of the Warren General Hospital, officiating.

Full military honors will be conducted by members of the Sheffield and Clarendon V.F.W. Funeral Detail at Oakland Cemetery.
