Gourley

July 5, 2008
The Times Observer

James and Viola Gourley celebrated their 60th anniversary at a party at Sugar Grove United Methodist Church on May 24. The celebration was hosted by their children, Bill, John, Gary and Paul Gourley, and Evelyn Woodburn.

The couple was presented with a quilt made by family members with pictures of the family. They received many gifts, some from 60 years ago. Aides were the couple's grandchildren. More than 200 guests attended from the local area, Florida, Tennessee and New York.

The Gourleys were married on May 23, 1948, by the Rev. Berlin at home in Sugar Grove. They and their sons own farms in the Sugar Grove/Lottsville area. Mrs. Gourley worked at Jamestown General Hospital for a short time, and both Mr. and Mrs. Gourley have worked on family dairy farms for years. They have five children, 18 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
