Centers look forward to Senior Games

Lunches:

Area Agency on Aging will serve the following menu at Conewango Towers, Warren Senior Center and Warren Senior Community Center June 9-13: Monday, tuna noodle casserole; Tuesday, ham and cheese sub; Wednesday, spaghetti; Thursday, chicken sandwich; Friday, taco salad. Eligible participants must be 60 or older. Suggested donation is $2.50. Call 723-3763 for information on congregate meal sites and center locations.

The center’s second annual pen pal trip to Warren Area Elementary Center was a huge success.

June 11 will mark the beginning of a busy summer with Senior Games at Betts Park. If you don’t want to play games, just come and watch and enjoy lunch. Registration forms are available at the center. Entertainment will be provided this year, so take a chair and enjoy the day. Bus service will be available by calling the center at 968-5667.

The first picnic will be June 26 with Bert as an auctioneer. Participants should take a wrapped gift to be auctions. You never know what kind of treasure you might end up with.

The boat trip this summer will be to Caledonia, Ontario. No passport will be needed, just a photo ID and birth certificate. The group will board the Queen for an afternoon luncheon cruise. Call for details.

Senior Games will be Wednesday, June 11. Registration forms can be picked up at the center. This is a great day to visit with people form other center.

The Community Center and Prime Time Health will sponsor a blood drive from 1 to 6 p.m. Friday, June 13, at Warren Mall. Please donate blood to help to save lives.

Plan now to go to Bliss, N.Y., on Thursday, June 19, to tour the Wind Turbines Power Environment. Many counties are producing their own electric through large windmills. If you went with the center to Letchworth Park last year, we passed several clusters of them. Call for reservations.

A new four-hour refresher AARP driving course also is being offered from 5:3o to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 24. Al Harrison will be the certified instructor. Call the center to sign up.

A monthly trip to Salamanca Casino and Bingo Hall is planned for Wednesday, June 25, leaving from the the former Quality Market in North Warren at 9 a.m. Call for reservations. No membership is necessary.

Trips for 2008 include a trip to see wind turbines on June 19; a trip to see the Pittsburgh Pirates play the St. Louis Cardinals on July 13; a Tribute to Frank Sinatra at Riverside Dinner Theater on July 18; a trip to see Vince Gil at Chautauqua on Aug. 22; and “Laughter in Bloom,” a tribute to Jack Benny at Riverside Dinner Theater on Aug. 26.

Warren Senior Center has tickets to see the Pittsburgh Pirate/New York Yankee game on Wednesday, June 25, leaving the center at 2 p.m., stopping in Cranberry at Bob Evans for dinner, then on to PNC Park for the 7:05 game. This trip is open to the public. For reservations or information call 723-3237.

The center has a trip going to Fort Erie Casino and Thoroughbred racing on Monday, June 23, leaving the center at 9 a.m. There are two prices for this trip, one for the casino and watching the racing outside, and one for a buffet lunch, watching the racing from the enclosed restaurant, and enjoying the casino. This trip is also open to the public and for information or reservations call the above number. Passports are not needed to get into Canada or back into the United States.

On Monday the center will serve choices for lunch of Swiss steak, stuffed pork chops or vegetable lasagna. Call the center for reservations through Monday morning; we will take them till choices are gone. All seniors welcome.

TOPS meetings will be held on Tuesdays, for the summer only, beginning with weigh-in at 9:30 a.m. and the meeting at 10 a.m. Everyone welcome.

Eye Health will be the topic on Monday at 11 a.m. with Carole Brosius from Vision and Blindness Resources. She will discuss Keeping Your Eyes Healthy. Everyone welcome.

There will be a meeting with sodas offered along with decorating the center for Flag Day on Tuesday beginning at 10:30 a.m. At 11 a.m.

Lauri from the U.S. Post Office will be at the center to discuss passports, when will we need them and is there such a thing as a passport card. Everyone welcome to come and listen.

At 3 p.m. Tuesday there will be a second meeting concerning the Scandinavian cruise. Several interested people were at the first meeting and some decisions were made. If you have interest in this trip come to the meeting and voice your opinion.

There will be a TAWC bus going to Erie on Wednesday, leaving from the center at 8 a.m. People can park in the lot behind Erie Insurance and board the bus at the parking lot entrance to the center. There is no charge for people 65 and older for this trip. Call the center for reservations.

Senior Games will be held on Wednesday. These games are great fun and great exercise. A wonderful meal will be available. Both Anne and Linda will be there to help and cheer you on.

The Mad Hatters will go to Cable Hollow Restaurant on Wednesday at 1 p.m. Call in if you are interested in going; otherwise we will be calling you early in the week.

Ice cream sundaes will be served on Friday at 12:45 p.m. with a make your own day. Lots of fun and great sundaes to be made. Then stay and play some poker with the group. Also, basket weaving classes will be held.

The Branson trip has a brochure available and there will be a meeting on Thursday, June 26, to discuss the plans and make any changes necessary. Come into the meeting and let us know what shows you want to include that we are not including and what else you wish to do.

The brochure is now available for Niagara-on-the-Lake. There are three meals included in the trip, lunch and two dinners, two plays, shopping time and a stop at the duty free store. No passport needed.
