Franklinville jumped out to a 4-1 lead before Westfield (19-1) scored six runs in the bottom of the third to take a 7-4 lead en route to a 13-6 Section VI, Class C quarterfinal win.
The Wolverines used four walks by the Panthers’ starting pitcher before a run scoring single by Tim Orlando scored Marcus Cuevas and Nick Quagliana to tie the game 4-4. A bases-clearing double by Greg Wilson to score John Blynt, Mitch Kyser and Orlando gave the Wolverines the 7-4 lead.
Six more runs by Westfield in the sixth put the game well out of reach, setting up the Wolverines with a semifinal matchup against Frewsburg.
Quagliana picked up the win in relief of Kyser, with both adding doubles for the Wolverines. Blynt and Wilson also added doubles.
Gowanda defeated Westfield, 2-1.
It was the first loss of the regular season for the Wolverines.
Nick Quagliana had a triple and Tim Orlando doubled for Westfield. John Blynt, Mitch Kyser and Orlando combined for four strikeouts and four walks.
In the Section VI tournament, Westfield defeated Silver Creek, 4-1.
Blynt was the winning pitcher with 10 strikeouts and four walks. He also had two hits and three RBI at the plate. Marcus Cuevas had a sacrifice fly.
Softball
Jill Scarpine allowed just two hits as Westfield defeated Allegany-Limestone, 3-0, in the Section VI tournament.
Scarpine finished with 11 strikeouts and three walks. She also had an RBI triple. Danielle Anderson had an RBI single for the Wolverines.
