WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (AP) — The death of a 78-year-old northeastern Pennsylvania woman allegedly assaulted by her niece has been ruled a homicide.

The Luzerne County coroner said Wednesday that Dorothy Koreny of Hanover Township died of traumatic head injuries and deemed the death a homicide.

Koreny died Tuesday. She had been hospitalized in critical condition since March 28, when police found her lying on the sidewalk outside her home bleeding from the face and head.

Her niece, 34-year-old Isis Brown, was arrested after the victim identified her as the attacker.

According to court documents, a next-door neighbor's surveillance camera captured Brown throwing porcelain figurines at the head of her elderly aunt, who can be seen lying on the ground.

Brown is behind bars on assault charges. Authorities say additional charges will likely be filed.
