EASTON, Pa. (AP) — A woman on trial in the death of her newborn says she thought she was only three months pregnant when she gave birth in the bathroom of an eastern Pennsylvania bar and stuffed the baby in a toilet tank.

The Express-Times ( said 27-year-old Amanda Hein of Allentown testified Wednesday that when she gave birth in August at Starters Pub in Bethlehem, she thought the baby boy was dead.

She said she placed the newborn in a plastic bag and hid him in a toilet tank because she panicked.

Hein has pleaded guilty to a general murder charge. The Northampton County jury must decide if she should be convicted of first- or third-degree murder.

Prosecutors say Hein concealed her pregnancy and intentionally killed the child.
